May the angels lead you into Paradise!
REV. FR. JOHN DENNIS LORDEN
"Father Gregory - Father Jack"
Faithful Priest, Spouse, and Friend
December 19, 1938 - December 5, 2009
Our dear brother and associate pastor, Father Jack passed into eternal life on Saturday, December 5, 2009. He was 70 years old. Fr. Jack was born to Eleanor (nee Perry) and John W. Lorden in Dorchester, MA. He has a sister, Joan Sumner of Green Valley, AZ, and has several cousins in the New England area. Ordained to the priesthood in 1967, "Fr. Gregory" (Orthodox and Eastern rite priests customarily receive a new name at ordination) faithfully served the people of God as a Melkite rite priest and also as an Army chaplain. His service also included chaplaincy and teaching roles at St. Basil Seminary and Presentation of Mary Academy, Methuen, MA, and Emerson College, Boston, MA. Father Jack has generously served as the associate pastor at Holy Spirit Ecumenical Catholic Church, Largo, FL for the last five years and a priest of the Ecumenical Catholic Communion.
Jack also served in the civic arena as the Affirmative Action Officer and ADA administrator for the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority, assistant director of training programs for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, chairman of the Human Rights Commission for Baldpate Hospital, Georgetown, MA, elections commissioner and chairman of the License Commission of Newburyport, MA.
Jack's life and heart were only complete with his beloved spouse of more than 38 years, John D. "Jack" Schlichte. They were legally married in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in June 2004. They made their home in Treasure Island, FL, a center of gracious and warm welcome and hospitality for friends and family.
We shall miss our Father Jack deeply. His deep and enthusiastic love for the Eastern Churches and the Holy Mother of God, under the title of Mother of Perpetual Help inspired and strengthened our faith. His pastoral care of souls without obstacle or boundary was ministered with noble simplicity. May the angels lead him into Paradise!
